जब किसी वस्तु या व्यक्ति का कहीं होना या ना होना पाया जाता है तथा इस वाक्य में कोई मुख्य Subject नहीं होता है ऐसे Simple Sentences में there का प्रयोग subject के रूप में करते हैं। There का प्रयोग Noun, Adverb तथा Interjection के रूप में होता है।
Meaning of there – ‘वहां/उस स्थान पर’
There की Hindi meaning ‘वहां/उस स्थान पर‘ होती है जब यह क्रिया विशेषण के रूप में प्रयोग होता है। लेकिन there का प्रयोग Introductory there (परिचय कराने वाले there) के रूप में होने पर इसका कोई अर्थ नहीं होता है। There meaning in Hindi.
Use of there as a subject
There का प्रयोग subject के रूप में होने पर इसके साथ Singular तथा Plural Verb का प्रयोग करते हैं। जैसा कि ऊपर आपको बताया गया है there का प्रयोग Introductory There के रूप में होता है। और यह तभी संभव होता है जब वाक्य में कोई सब्जेक्ट ना हो, ऐसी स्थिति में हम there का प्रयोग सब्जेक्ट के रूप में करते हैं।

Note : उपरोक्त वाक्य में कुर्सी के कहीं होने की बात की जा रही है। हिंदी वाक्य ‘एक कुर्सी है’ में हमें किसी उचित Subject का पता नहीं चल रहा है। इसलिए ऐसी स्थिति में हमें यहां देर का प्रयोग करना होता है। जोकि सब्जेक्ट के रूप में प्रयोग होता है।
Examples:–
- एक गाय है। There is a cow.
- कोई है। There is somebody.
- एक राजा था। There was a king.
- कुछ था। There was something.
- एक किसान था। There was a farmer.
- छत पर चोर है। There is a thief on the roof.
- जंगल में शेर है। There is a lion in the forest.
- छत पर कोई है। There is someone on the roof.
- भारत में 28 राज्य हैं। There are 28 states in India.
- मेरे परिवार में 7 सदस्य हैं। There are seven members in my family.
Use of There as an Object
There का प्रयोग ऑब्जेक्ट के रूप में भी होता है। Object के रूप में there का प्रयोग होने पर इसका अर्थ ‘वहां’ होता है। ऐसी स्थिति में there से पहले verb का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
There as an object
| A chair is there. (एक कुर्सी है।/एक कुर्सी वहां है।/वहां एक कुर्सी है।) |
Note : उपरोक्त वाक्य में is के बाद there का प्रयोग हुआ है। अर्थात there का प्रयोग यहां object के रूप में हुआ है। ऐसे वाक्यों में अधिकतर there की Meaning ‘वहां’ होती है।
Examples:–
- गाड़ी है। A car is there.
- कुछ है। Something is there.
- मेरी कार वहां है। My car is there.
- शेर वहां है।/वहां शेर है। The Lion is there.
- रमेश वहां है।/वहां रमेश है। Ramesh is there.
Important Point : ऊपर दिए गए वाक्यों को दोनों तरीके से बना सकते हैं नीचे दिए गए उदाहरण से समझें –
| There was an old king. An old King was there. | एक बूढ़ा राजा था। वहां एक बूढ़ा राजा था। एक बूढ़ा राजा वहां था |
ऊपर दिए गए वाक्यों को हम there का प्रयोग Subject के रूप में करके दोनों तरीके से बना सकते हैं। इसे गलत नहीं माना जाता है। यह बिल्कुल सही है।
Helping verbs with there
There के साथ अलग-अलग Helping Verb का प्रयोग किया जाता है। और यह helping verbs समय, टेंस तथा काल के हिसाब से की जाती हैं। There के साथ is, was, are, were, will, should, would, could, can, may, might, has been, might have been, need आदि का प्रयोग करते हैं।
Where and how is there used in a sentence?
जब हम लोगों को बताते हैं कोई व्यक्ति या वस्तु, कुछ कहीं मौजूद है या नहीं है, तो हम आमतौर पर वाक्य की शुरुआत there से करते हैं। इसके बाद verb को रखते हैं।
There is, there are, there was, there were etc का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
इनके अलावा there के साथ और अन्य verbs का प्रयोग किया जाता है। There के साथ प्रयोग होने वाले verbs, auxiliary verbs, helping verbs व उनके structures नीचे दिए जा रहे हैं।
There as as Pronoun
There का प्रयोग Pronoun के रूप में किसी subject का परिचय कराने के लिए कर सकते हैं। इस यूज़ में हम there को Introductory there अर्थात परिचय कराने वाला there कहते हैं।
जैसे की:–
- There is an elephant in the forest. जंगल में एक हाथी है।
- There was a king in our city. हमारे शहर में एक राजा था।
There as an adverb
There का प्रयोग verb के बाद क्रिया विशेषण (Adverb) के रूप में किया जा सकता है। नीचे दिए गए उदाहरणों से समझें –
जैसे की:–
- Go there. वहां जाओ।
- She lives there. वह वहां रहती है।
- I don’t want to wait there. मैं वहां इंतजार नहीं करना चाहता हूं।
- Stay there till I come back? जब तक मैं वापस न आ जाऊँ, तब तक वहाँ रहना?
Use of There as an Interjection
There का प्रयोग interjection के रूप में वहां, उस स्थान पर, उस जगह पर, उस बिन्दु पर, उस तथ्य पर, उस बात पर के अर्थ के रूप में करते हैं।
जैसे की:–
- There! He didn’t agree with me. He asked me what happened next.
- There! I cannot accept your point. You should tell me more about that.
Other Uses of There
- There might be a little confusion. थोड़ा भ्रम हो सकता है।
- There is no need to study. पढ़ाई करने की कोई जरूरत नहीं है।
- There may be a lion in the garden. बगीचे में एक शेर हो सकता है।
- There should be a good government in the state. राज्य में एक अच्छी सरकार होनी चाहिए।
- There seems to be an error with this computer. इस कंप्यूटर के साथ कोई त्रुटि प्रतीत होती है
- Long ago there lived a king with his sons. बहुत समय पहले अपने बेटों के साथ एक राजा रहता था।
- There comes a day when you have everything. एक दिन आता है जब आपके पास सब कुछ होता है।
Affirmative Sentences
There का प्रयोग Affirmative Sentences में ऊपर बताए गए नियमों के अनुसार होता है। फिर भी समझने के लिए आप नीचे structure को पढ़ सकते हैं।

- वहां एक मेज है। A table is there.
- वहां कुछ है। Something is there.
- पुरानी गाड़ी है। There is an old car.
- वहां बच्चे हैं। The children are there.
- तुम्हारे पिताजी वहां हैं। Your father is there.
- एक बूढ़ा व्यक्ति था। There was an old man.
- वहां एक काली गाय है। A black cow is there.
- कमरे में घड़ी है। There is a clock in the room.
- खेत में एक गाय है। There is a cow in the field.
- उस घर में पेड़ है। There is a tree in his house.
- गली में लोग हैं। There are people in the street.
- उसके शहर में नदी है। There is a river in his city.
- बाजार में दुकानें हैं। There are shops in the market.
- छत पर चोर होगा। There will be a Thief on the roof.
- किताब में सौ पन्ने हैं। There are 100 pages in the book.
- उसके गांव में विद्यालय है। There is a school in his village.
- मेरे पर्स में 100 हैं। There are one hundred rupees in my purse.
- मेरे गांव में दो अस्पताल हैं। There are two hospitals in my village.
- इस विद्यालय में 50 कमरे हैं। There are fifty rooms in this school.
- तुम्हारे परिवार में 10 सदस्य हैं। There are ten members in your family.
- मेरे बाग में कई तरह के फूल हैं। There are many kinds of flowers in my garden.
- इस कंपनी में 100 से ज्यादा कर्मचारी हैं। There are more than a hundred employees in this company.
Negative Sentences
- नल नहीं है। There is no tap.
- कोई नहीं है। There is no one.
- वहां कोई नहीं है। There is nobody.
- काली गाय नहीं है। There is not a cow.
- बूढ़ा व्यक्ति वहां नहीं है। There is not an old man.
- कमरे में पंखा नहीं है। There is not a fan in the room.
- जाने की कोई जरूरत नहीं है। There is no need to go.
- इस गांव में कोई नहीं है। There is no one in this village.
- रामगढ़ में राजा नहीं था। There was not a king in Ramgarh.
- तुम्हारे गांव में पेड़ नहीं है। There are no trees in your village.
- गांव में कच्चे घर नहीं है। There are no mud houses in the village.
- उस नगर में अस्पताल नहीं है। There is not a hospital in that town.
- मेरे कार्यालय में कर्मचारी नहीं हैं। There are no workers in my office.
- उसके बाग में कई पौधे नहीं हैं। There are not many plants in his garden.
- मेरे साथ चलने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है। There is no need to go with me.

- क्या गाय है? Is there a cow?
